Abstract

The purpose of this research is to predict the feeling of loneliness of female managers based on couples' communication patterns and interpersonal dependence with the mediator role of spiritual health. The participants were 300 female managers working in the program and budget organization of Tehran (Iran), who were selected by accessible sampling. Research tools included couple communication patterns questionnaire, interpersonal dependence questionnaire, spiritual health questionnaire and feeling of loneliness questionnaire. To examine the hypotheses of the study, structural equation modeling was used in AMOS 24 software. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between communication patterns and feelings of loneliness, between spiritual health and feelings of loneliness and between interpersonal dependence and feeling of loneliness (p<0.001). Accordingly, couples' communication patterns and interpersonal dependence significantly predict the loneliness of female managers. Also, the findings showed that communication patterns and interdependence are indirectly related to feelings of loneliness through spiritual health. Based on the findings, it is suggested that in the treatment of managers' feelings of loneliness, sufficient attention should be paid to couples' communication patterns, interpersonal dependence, and their spiritual health.

Abstract

Solution-Focused Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on solutions rather than on gaining insight into challenges and concerns. This approach used a variety of principles to generate solutions for those who need them through a therapeutic process. The current study aimed to examine the effectiveness of solution-oriented approach on marital adjustment in conflicted couples in Kermanshah (Iran). This experimental study was conducted with an experimental pre-test-post-test with a control group design. The statistical population included all the conflicted couples in Kermanshah city in 2020 that referred to Kermanshah counseling centers due to marital conflicts and received a diagnosis of marital conflict by a psychologist. Participants were 30 couples were selected by random sampling and randomly assigned in experimental and control groups (15 couples in each group). Pre-test and posttest was administered in the control and experimental groups before and after intervention.  Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS) and Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory were used to collecting data. For analyzing the data Covariance analysis was used. The results indicated that the solution-oriented approach is effective on marital adjustment in conflicting couples. Overall, results support the use of SFT in increasing the marital adjustment and provide an effective approach that is more strength based and fewer problems focused.

Abstract

In recent studies, psychological factors, personality traits and emotional and cognitive profiles of couple’s applicants for divorce have been considered. The current study aimed to examine the psychological profile of couples applying for divorce. This study in the first part was a survey type that evaluates the psychological profile of couples applying for divorce with cohabitation. In the second part and in a causal-comparative study, we compared the profiles of couples applying for divorce with cohabitation less than and more than five years. The statistical population includes all couples applying for divorce of Tehran in 2022. Participants were 60 volunteers were selected by purposive sampling method, and finally 32 cases were selected as the sample. Data was collected by Cattell's 16 Personality Factors Test .The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and one sample T-test. The results indicated that between the couples applying for divorce with less than and more than five years of marriage there are significant differences  in most of the psychological characteristics except for the spontaneous versus restrained, suspicious versus trusting and inpatient versus relaxed. In general, the findings support the role of psychological factors in the tendency and attitude towards divorce in couples

Abstract

Research has consistently highlighted the association between alexithymia and various challenges in personal and marital life. Consequently, the primary objective of this study was to predict marital conflicts with Alexithymia as the predictor, while considering the mediating role of emotion regulation. This study adopted a descriptive correlational design, employing structural equation modeling to examine the relationships between the variables. The study's statistical population encompassed all couples seeking assistance at counseling centers in Shiraz during the winter of 2021, particularly those grappling with marital conflict issues. The sample size consisted of 394 individuals, selected through cluster random sampling. Data collection involved the utilization of several questionnaires, including the Sanai Marital Conflict Questionnaire, the Toronto Alexithymia Questionnaire and  Garnefski Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. The results of this investigation demonstrated that the proposed model exhibited a favorable fit with the data, as indicated by various fit indices. Furthermore, both direct and indirect coefficients between alexithymia and marital conflicts were deemed statistically significant (p < 0.05). In essence, this implies that alexithymia can contribute to the escalation of marital conflicts, and emotion regulation plays a mediating role in this relationship. Overall, the findings of this study have valuable implications for family counselors and psychologists, offering insights into the development of effective interventions aimed at mitigating marital conflicts among couples.

Abstract

Objective: Marital burnout is one of the factors related to the marital conflicts, so the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of systemic family therapy on marital conflicts and marital burnout in couples.
Methods: The ongoing study adopted a semi-experimental research design consisting of pre-test and post-test measurements with a control group. The target population for this investigation comprised married women seeking assistance at the counseling center in the second educational district of Baharestan in 2023. Following specific eligibility criteria, 30 married women were selected randomly and divided into two groups: 15 individuals in the control group and 15 individuals in the experimental group. The research instruments utilized were Sanai Zaker's Marital Conflict Questionnaire (2000) and the Couple Burnout Measure (CBM) (Pines, 1996).
Results: Data analysis involved the application of multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance to examine the hypotheses using SPSS version 22 software. The findings indicated that the implementation of family therapy proved to be efficacious in diminishing marital conflicts and burnout among married women.
Conclusions: In conclusion, systemic family therapy emerges as a viable intervention for couples experiencing conflict.

Abstract

Objective: This study examined the efficacy of emotion-focused therapy (EFT) in addressing cognitive fusion among couples seeking divorce.
Methods: Using a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test assessments and a control group, the study recruited 30 couples from counseling centers in Tehran’s fifth district in 2023 through convenience sampling. Participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=15 couples) receiving eight 90-minute EFT sessions twice weekly or a control group (n=15 couples) placed on a waitlist. Cognitive fusion was measured using the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ). Data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) in SPSS-24.

Results: Post-test results indicated a statistically significant reduction in cognitive fusion in the experimental group compared to the control group after adjusting for pre-test scores.
Conclusions: Emotion-focused therapy effectively reduced cognitive fusion in divorce-seeking couples. Given its therapeutic benefits, EFT should be integrated into psychological and family therapy interventions to mitigate cognitive fusion in high-conflict couples.

Abstract

Objective: This study compared the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral couple therapy (CBCT) and emotion-focused couple therapy (EFCT) on emotional empathy and sexual intimacy in women experiencing marital conflict.
Methods: Using a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and two-month follow-up assessments, the research included a control group for comparison. The sample consisted of 48 married women (aged 20–45) seeking psychological counseling in West Tehran due to marital discord, selected through convenience sampling and randomly assigned to three groups: CBCT, EFCT, and control. Participants were assessed using the Sanaei Marital Conflict Questionnaire, Emotional Empathy Scale, and a standardized Sexual Intimacy Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
Results: Findings indicated that both CBCT and EFCT significantly improved emotional empathy and sexual intimacy compared to baseline (p < 0.05). However, EFCT demonstrated greater efficacy in enhancing emotional empathy, while CBCT was more effective in improving sexual intimacy. Follow-up assessments confirmed the sustained effects of both therapies. The study highlights the differential impacts of CBCT and EFCT, suggesting that EFCT may be more beneficial for fostering emotional connection, whereas CBCT may better address intimacy-related concerns.
Conclusions: These results provide valuable insights for clinicians in tailoring therapeutic approaches based on couples' specific relational needs. The findings contribute to the growing body of research on evidence-based interventions for marital conflict, emphasizing the importance of selecting therapy models aligned with desired outcomes—whether emotional attunement or sexual satisfaction.
