Abstract: (38 Views)
Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on cognitive flexibility and rumination in patients diagnosed with sexual obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Method: This applied study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest and control group. The statistical population consisted of individuals with sexual OCD referred to counseling and psychological treatment centers in Isfahan. A purposive sampling method was used to select participants who were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received eight sessions of ACT, while the control group received no intervention. Data were collected using the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI) and the Rumination Response Scale (RRS). Statistical analyses were conducted using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA).
Results: Results indicated that ACT significantly improved cognitive flexibility and reduced rumination among patients in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < .05).
Conclusion: These findings suggest that ACT can be considered an effective therapeutic approach for enhancing adaptive cognitive processes and reducing maladaptive thought patterns in patients with sexual OCD, thereby offering valuable implications for clinical practice and intervention planning.
